Brothers: a Tale of Two Sons.

System:  PSN/PS3

Bought:  Free on PSN for January

Started:  Feb 17th
Beat:  Feb 25th

Trophies:  12 of 12
                 No Plat.

Idea:  You play as two brothers, who have recently lost their mother and are now trying to get the cure for their fathers mystery ailment.

Thoughts:  Let me first say that the controls on this game were quite unique, at least to me. You control the older brother with the left stick and the younger with the right, of course if a person lacked any sort of coordination this would simply be a nightmare.
It's a very short game, insanely even...if I had paid I believe the 15$ asking price I'd be a bit irritated. Some people say there's replay value, but eh...not really.  It's nice to look at and everything, but there's really nothing "different" to do to make you want to go through it again.
The story is amazing and heartbreaking, I cried a little at the end and....yea...  I couldn't believe they ended it like that.  The music matches the game as well...  lets just say there's nothing to really complain about, but the length.. which even though short it got the job done nicely.

To the game..

You start with the younger brother {Naiee}mourning his mother at her tombstone on a cliff overlooking the ocean, she apparently drowned and he was too weak/small to save her. In the background you hear some coughing and such and then the older brother {Nyaa} calls for the younger.  The two of them take him to the village doctor...
The doctor tells/shows Nyaa what's needed to save their father and off on the adventure they go.  It's really strange how everyone just kinda points off in a direction like "Oh... It's just over there.."  when in fact it seems to be half way across the bloody world. Kind of a dangerous world too...
Your first problem is actually in the village itself, there's a little shithead that keeps trying to block your path... you get him back for this however by opening a cage and letting a rowdy dog have it's way with him.
Throughout the game different items or people will have different reactions when interacting with either the younger or older brother.  The younger being more playful or irritating and the older being more.. serious. Animals really seem to like Naiee better then his older brother as well..
Once you finally get through the village and past a dog guarding what looks to be a hay field you come across, a Troll?  He aids the two in climbing through the mountains and once you reach a cave system you realize why that Troll looked so sad earlier.  Some other Trolls had taken his girlfriend!  You save her, battle the bad trolls then "Oh... It's over there.." away you go!
Through forests, over mountains, through the air.  You save a man attempting to hang himself from a tree because his wife and child died when their house burnt down, climbing into the burnt house you bring him a music box and this seems to help him a little... No idea if he continues on after the two leave him but hey.. I'd like to think he did.
Eventually you get to a Giants castle where you rescue a captive Griffin, the Griffin takes to the younger brother more so than the elder, but he allows the both of them to ride on his back until finally... he succumbs to his injuries and dies {sorta}.
While navigating your way through a field of dead, giant warriors the two brothers come across a girl being sacrificed by some crazy looking tribe.  Saving her from the lot the three of you race off into the icy regions of the area...
Maybe we should have let the girl die.

Nyaa seems to start liking this girl, Naiee seems to either just not like how close they are becoming or suspects something up and....there is.  She turns into a giant bloody spider... Yes.... A spider woman. Capturing the two boys at first, they escape and into battle they go. While Nyaa is pulling her legs off one by one {kinda mean} she impales him before she dies.
Nyaa is injured badly, Naiee is helping his brother through the trails and to the end of their journey. It's a bit annoying that they were so close to their goal, after everything they had been through before it was this girl that tricked them and... finally at the Tree of Life.... Nyaa dies.  Naiee attempts to give his brother the liquid from the tree, but it's too late... he crys, he digs a gave for his brother and just as I thought he was going to have to walk back.   The presumed dead Griffin shows up...
The Griffin carries Naiee back to his home, dropping him off on the shore he has to cross the river again.. facing his fear of the water he swims himself across the water.  During this part the controls start to become different... you use the older brothers left side along with the younger right...  It's as though the older brothers spirit is helping him across the river.
Naiee gets the cure to the doctor that saves his father... the end of the game is the father and Naiee standing at that cliff from earlier, now with a tombstone for Nyaa there as well.  The father breaks down and crys....  The End.

DMC: Devil May Cry

System:    PS3

Bought:  Free on PSN for January

Started:    Jan 13th
Beat:         Feb 3rd

Trophies:   30 of 59

Idea:  You play as Dante, a basic asshole.  No, I guess that's not the only thing he is. At first he's just a playboy bad ass until he meets Kat and then Vergil.  They introduce him to what he and the city he lives in really is.
You end up jumping between realities and killing demons while attempting to free the city from a demon overlord and sort of trying to avenge your mother and father, who he killed/enslaved.

Thoughts:  It may be a good thing that I never played the first three or four games of this, this is a reboot and it's actually not very good.  The gameplay is fine, sort of reminding me of Darksiders, but damn the story is generic.
Your main character Dante is a Nephillim, when he and his twin brother were very young their parents Eva {an Angel} and Sparda {a demon} were killed/enslaved by Mundus {King of the Demons}. While there Mundus only saw one of the boys so he believed there was just one Nephillim {Dante}.
Present day, Dante has spent all his life hunted by demons without actually knowing why. He believes he lost his early memories to a bout of meningitis, one morning after taking two chicks home from a bar he meets Kat who warns him of a Hunter Demon that finds him and pulls him into Limbo.
Human Barbos.
Kat "saves" him sorta and after explaining to him that she's a member of the rebel group "The Order" she brings him to meet with it's leader, Vergil.  Turns out Vergil is his twin brother that is dedicated to the task of releasing the city from the demons clutches.
The demons, with Barbos being their semi-leader in the city is using an energy drink known as Virility to control the humans {the drink is actually made by a succubus}.  Dante's recruited to help with this task...

Ending:  Kat gets abducted by Barbos who also doesn't realize that there are two Nephillim and wants Dante to surrender himself for Kat. Vergil of course won't alllow this to happen so, they use the information that Dante learned earlier of Barbos girlfriend {whore?} being pregnant with his heir to their advantage. They go and kidnap her....
Trade time.  During the trade, Lilith for Kat... Vergil shoots Lilith from behind and kills both she and the child.  This pisses off Barbos to no end...
Back with Dante and Vergil, Kat helps them break into Barbos' tower for the final battle. Dante fighting his way through while Vergil is playing backup with the computery stuff and shutting down the demon gate. Demon gate shut down, Barbos dead and.......  *gasp*   Barbos isn't the final bad guy.
With Barbos gone, Vergil has every intention to fill that void.  He'll be the new "nice" leader for the humans and the like since they need protection from the demons and all.  Dante doesn't like the idea and the two of them fight...
Blah,Blah,Blah,  Dante wins and Vergil leaves... Kat's still with Dante and The End.

Character...

Kat -   A human that works closely with Vergil, he apparently "saved" her and has been teaching her to use her abilities. At the end it's pretty obvious that he really doesn't care a bit about her though and was basically just using her to get what he wanted.
Anyways, she's really a sweet girl and seems to have worked her way into Dante's heart {kinda}. When she was younger, her adopted father would do bad things to her.... during the events she would try to put her mind elsewhere.. that lead to her being able to Astral project.
Not much else is revealed about her, but she certainly has a soft spot for Vergil. Even after he reveals his true plans after Barbos' death.

Maybe I should eventually play the other DMCs, there is a collection out for the PS3.... If I ever get around to finishing all the God of Wars, I may just pick it up.  Maybe.   Dante in any form doesn't really spark my interest much.

Odds I will ever Plat this?  0%.   I am in no way up for the task of playing this game through five more time. Glad it was free, if I had bought it...I probably would kick myself.

Haha.

Ponyo

How:  Netflix Rental

Grade:   C-

Thoughts:   This was probably the third time I attempted to watch this movie, the first being before it was released dub and the second while it was on TV while dubbed.  Having such a familiar voice in the movie that is Liam Neeson kind of hurt it for me. {I will find you, and I will kill you.}
Anyways, I did watch it in both and I do prefer the sub over all. Now, to the movie itself..

A little boy Sousuke is playing outside his house, near the beach and finds a strange looking goldfish... he puts her in a bucket and brings her home.  This is no ordinary goldfish though, she's the daughter of the sea goddess  "Granmammare" and a sea wizard Fujimoto.
While with Sousuke she licks a cut on his hand, healing it in the process but... apparently since she sampled that human blood she can... magically start turning into a human.  This of course starts to occur after Fujimoto steals her back from Sousuke. He attempts to lock her into the goldfish form, but with the help of her goldfish siblings she escapes and goes back to Sousuke.
Apparently, Ponyo using her powers to turn into a human form and such has created some sort of.... event.  A huge storm forms and floods the entire island that Sousuke lives on...
Goldfish!

Blah.

I don't actually want to write anymore on this one, the movie didn't really leave any great impression on me. In the end Ponyo looses her goldfish powers and becomes a human, to live with Sousuke who she loves{?}.
Sousuke's father who works on a fishing boat or something gets home safe and all is happy... save for maybe Fujimoto who looses his daughter.
    Meh.

Ponyo does have a strange addiction to ham, which I found a little amusing...

January ~ It's Winter.

Let me start out by saying... It's fucking cold.  It shouldn't be this cold, I know it's winter and all, but come on....  This is Kentucky not Maine.  Temps not going above 20 during the day is something that just should not happen in Kentucky, ever...
January Sucks, Winter Sucks.  Hope the bugs die at least...

Now on the spending side of things, I didn't do that bad this month... Only two things.

Finding Nemo DVD/BluRay Combo Pack- I've had this movie on my DVR for ages now, have watched it multiple times and finally caved in and bought it.

Ruin Explorers-  Found it used at Half Priced Books, it's a fun little show that I had watched a long time ago on VHS.  Maiden Japan has recently re-released it, but this is the ADV release.

Network Purchases;   There went that free five dollars from last month, they had a pretty nice sale and I grabbed Puppeteer. I was going to go for Rain, but I figured that may actually come free eventually... of course with my luck it will be Puppeteer that comes free.  Oh well.

It was a pretty good month in the free game world...

DMC: Devil May Cry;  Have never played the original DMC games, but I was always curious about this one. People say it's really bad....Eh.  Free is a perfect way to try it!

Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons;  Had been thinking about buying this game back when it was first released, now I'm glad I waited.  From what I've seen in the reviews it should be really good....

BioShock Infinite; I do not have much hope for this game, but it's in my download list.  Will try it.... someday.

Finding Nemo Combo Pack-         23.00
Ruin Explorers-                   5.00
Puppeteer -                       2.00

Total:                           30.00
